shifting colors

foliage reportIf I’m going to follow-through on my desire (and big talk) to drive through the country and “experience” the fall colors, this is the weekend to do it, if the Fall Foliage Update from Accuweather is to be believed.

The leaves around here have been on the cusp of “popping” from ordinary green to rich gold and vibrant red for about a month now. A couple weekends ago, I drove down GW Parkway and took pictures near Mt. Vernon. Some trees had changed colors, but the majority hadn’t. In the courtyard outside my living room window, two huge trees have shifted colors. With the recent storms, one tree has begun to shed its leaves, carpeting the grass and sidewalks in gold.

(Thanks to Rob for the Accuweather link.)
