winter comforts

Tonight’s one of the first really chilly nights of the fall/winter season. Practicality has won out over frugality, and I’ve turned on the heat. The windows in my apartment are a bit drafty; I should probably buy drapes for the living room and bedroom to better keep out the cold air.

Rob and I have been chatting a bit about cold-weather comforts — the little things that help make the chilly season that much more bearable. Some of mine:

  • Thick, soft socks, for padding around the house/apartment
  • Hot tea (particularly the “spicier” flavors), hot cocoa (always made with milk) and, on limited occasions, hot apple cider
  • An oversized, comfy sweater
  • Good, thick, hot soups and stews. Nothing better to warm up your insides.
  • Warm bread, fresh from the oven. The aroma alone is heavenly.
  • Still-warm clothes fresh from the dryer. It helps make getting out of bed worth the effort, especially on teeth-chatteringly cold mornings.
