in memoriam

My favorite Indian restaurant, Cafe New Delhi, has apparently gone up to the big kitchen in the sky.

Rob told me over the phone that he’d been to Clarendon this afternoon and saw that the restaurant had a “lost our lease” sign out front. No forwarding address or “We’ve moved to…” sign was immediately apparent.

It’s a shame — although perhaps not entirely unexpected — to hear that the restaurant has gone. It’s a block or two off the “main drag” in Clarendon, and thus perhaps not as easy to find or stumble upon. Their food was excellent, but the dining room often sadly devoid of customers.

Comments

After standing empty for nearly a year, the former Cafe New Delhi apparently has been replaced by a new bar, Eleventh Street. (Washington Post review, Nov. 2004)
