back in the saddle again
Tomorrow marks the beginning of my final semester in Georgetown’s CCT program. It’s kind of startling to realize that this is the last semester — The past year and a half have just zoomed by, and I feel like I still have so much more to do, so much more to study and investigate, before I feel like I’ve really earned my master’s degree. It’ll be nice to be done with the demands of full-time studenthood, but at the same time, I’m going to miss that sense of intellectual engagement that academia offers (unlike the more mind-numbing routine of the “real world”). I doubt that May will mark the end of my educational career. No PhD for me, probably, but I hope to keep taking classes.
This semester looks to offer some interesting intellectual potential, with three classes that all fall rather squarely in my realm of interests. Let’s hope they live up to that (and that I’m up to the task of being an “active” student).
CCTP-683: The Business of Public Opinion and Propaganda
CCTP-695: American Popular Culture: History, Story and Analysis (The range of readings for this class — from Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics to an investigation of how the Sony Walkman became a cultural icon — look fascinating.)
CCTP-796: Election Campaign Communications (Particularly relevant in this election year.)

I was just thinking the same thing…I certainly don’t feel like I’ve learned enough to qualify for a Master’s degree - there really is an endless quantity of information to parse and knowledge to acquire… sigh. And yet, this is the beginning of my thesis semester - and thesis only - and I’m a bit unnerved. Nice choice not to subject yourself to that Aly, but we’ll miss you at “Washington School 2.0”. You’ll have to make a cameo appearance one evening….
