my first mac

Apple PowerBookIt’s here!

My new PowerBook arrived via FedEx just half an hour ago. And I’m so incredibly giddy about it.

After having worked with Macs for so many years, it’s almost hard for me to believe that this is the first Mac I’ve ever owned.

And on top of the new computer joy is a certain kind of reassurance and a sense of regained control. Computers are so central to my everyday life. Being able to start fresh — either with a brand-new computer, or with an old computer that’s been wiped clean — allows one to do things over again, reorganize one’s affairs, put things exactly as one wants them — in a way, play demigod, molding one’s virtual world in one’s own image.

It’s time to roll up my sleeves and get to work!
