It’s fairly common to see folks shuttering, boarding or taping up their windows before a major hurricane. Covering windows is important to keep debris from flying into a building — as well as block out wind that can peel off the roof.

But one of these methods doesn’t belong.

Leading up to the recent storms in Florida, news reports and the Red Cross advised folks against taping up their windows, and advocated sturdier methods of protecting the windows:

Prepare to cover all windows of your home. If shutters have not been installed, use precut plywood as described above. Note: Tape does not prevent windows from breaking, so taping windows is not recommended.

Yeah, I’d imagine that tape wouldn’t stand up very well to flying tree limbs and the like.
