punkin pickin
Michaela organized a fab outing yesterday to Butler’s Orchard, in Germantown, Md., for their annual Pumpkin Festival. We couldn’t have have asked for a more beautiful day — deep blue skies, lots of sunshine, perfect temperature. The rickety hay ride to and from the pumpkin picking patch was a good bit of throwback fun, and I had a good time trying to find (and photograph) the perfect pumpkins.
Rob and I walked away with two pumpkins: a medium-sized one for carving, and a smallish one for maybe cooking with. Roasted pumpkin seeds and homemade pumpkin pie … or pumpkin soup … or pumpkin something … here we come.
We also picked up a couple small jugs of fresh apple cider and mulling spices, which should smell — and taste — absolutely wonderful when we sit down to carve the pumpkins. Mmmm … It’s beginning to feel like fall.
