color code

On a random design note, I really like the way the folks at roanoke.com have set up their left navigation bar. There are clear topic headers (with links related to the Roanoke Times, news content, classifieds, etc.), with clear sub-links beneath them. (Although I wonder if there are too many sub-links in the navbar.)

What I especially like is the intelligent use of color: the dark color for the header and lighter shade of that color for the sublinks, and the way that the colors follow the color spectrum in reverse order (purple to blue to green to yellow-brown), establishing a clear, intuitive hierarchy. (See full screen shot.)

Plus, it looks like it was programmed using CSS, which pleases my geeky heart.
