reader note

I’ve been subscribed to the Miami Herald’s weekly Dave Barry e-newsletter, which features the humorist’s weekly column and links to recent entries on his blog. Last week, Barry’s final column (until he returns in from a long sabbatical) was published.

This is a very minor thing, but I was really impressed that someone included a thoughtful note to readers at the beginning of this week’s Barry e-newsletter, reminding them of Barry’s extended vacation, letting them know what the paper plans to do until his return and offering them an easy way to opt-out of their e-newsletter subscription. It’s a small touch that goes a long way to making the newsletter more than just an automated chron job.

Unless you’ve been on vacation or just don’t keep up with “the news,” you have probably heard Dave Barry is taking a break from writing his weekly column. Yeah, we’re devastated too. But we have a fix.

Throughout the year, we’re running classic Dave, a selection of Dave Barry’s best from years past. We hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we did the first time (possibly even more because our reading comprehension skills have improved since then). And don’t forget, Dave and the stealth bloggerette will continue to update the weblog on a regular basis. However, if you feel you need a break from these emails, you can unsubscribe here or by following the instructions at the bottom of this email. Thanks!
