seen: streets like thunderdome

The Washington Post today reports on likely traffic problems in the District this week as a result of the presidential inauguration on Thursday.

Traffic watchers said people should think of it as something like a regular weekday rush hour and a major snowstorm wrapped together.

“Regular weekday rush hour” is painful, but not horrendous. “Major snowstorm” is more telling — the city completely freaks out at the sign of a mere snowflake. (And, if early forecasts are to be believed, there may actually be snow on Inauguration Day, or at least the night before.) So the two together? I’m not going anywhere near that.
