tivo me

This makes me so happy. Maybe next year I’ll have a real TiVo instead of this generic DVR… :)

TiVo Inc., the struggling pioneer of digital video recorders, will make a customized version for Comcast cable subscribers, the two companies announced Tuesday.

The move will increase TiVo’s presence in American homes as it faces competition from generic DVRs offered directly by leading cable companies. Comcast Corp. expects to begin marketing the new DVRs, which will carry the TiVo brand, by mid- to late 2006.

• Company announcements: Comcast | TiVo

Brilliant move on TiVo’s part, joining forces with one of the very parties cannibalizing its potential market. If you can’t beat ‘em…

It’s great for Comcast, too — TiVo is a much more instantly recognizeable concept than, say, “digital video recorder.” It’s easier to sell “TiVo” than “DVR.” TiVo’s practically become the verb to describe what digitival video recorders do.
