mother, may i?
For Mother’s Day, my sister had the brilliant (and exceedingly selfless) idea to give our mom an iPod mini that she had won through a contest at school. My siblings and I all contributed music (10-20 songs each) to load onto the device for Mom to listen to. For my playlist, I tried to combine songs that I know my Mom likes with tunes that she’s probably never heard but might take a liking to nonetheless:
- “These Are Days” by 10,000 Maniacs
- “A Minor Incident” by Badly Drawn Boy
- “Lady Madonna” by The Beatles
- “If She Wants Me” by Belle & Sebastian
- “The Wind” by Cat Stevens
- “Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby” by Counting Crows
- “Your Song” by Elton John
- “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy
- “Landslide (live)” by Fleetwood Mac
- “Naked as We Came” by Iron & Wine
- “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor
- “What Makes You” by Jesse Haris (featuring Norah Jones)
- “Daughters” by John Mayer
- “A Place Called Home” by Kim Richey
- “This Shirt” by Mary Chapin Carpenter
- “One of These Things First” by Nick Drake
- “Find the River” by R.E.M.
- “By Your Side” by Sade
- “Blackbird” by Sarah McLachlan
- “Bright Side of the Road” by Van Morrison

Happy Mother’s Day!
