hee-cah-go

Buckingham Fountain

I have a two-hour layover in Dallas this morning, so I’ve had time to finish going through my photos from my trip to Chicago last weekend.

Rob and I went massively tourist this time, hitting a ton of Chicago hot spots in just two days:

Friday night:

  • Arrived late at night at O’Hare.
  • Took the El into town and checked into our hotel.
  • Cabbed over to Lincoln Park for a late dinner at John Barleycorn with Kate and the Holovatys.

Saturday:

  • Took the bus over to the Museum of Science and Industry. My personal highlight: the baby chick hatchery.
  • Took the Metra train and then the El up to Wrigley to see the Cubbies lose to the Phillies.
  • Crashed at the hotel for a couple hours.
  • Met up with Kate for fried food and Chicago-style pizza at Giordano’s.
  • Meandered down Michigan Avenue from the restaurant to our hotel.

Sunday:

  • Visited Shedd Aquarium. My personal favorite (and perhaps the highlight of the trip for me): The escaping penguins.
  • Mother’s Day dim sum with Rob’s parents at Shui Wah in Chinatown.
  • A quick sashay through the under-renovation Chicago Historical Society.
  • Breezed through the Art Institute. Mmmm … Nighthawks.
  • Perused the Chicago Architectural Society’s way-cool bookstore and gift shop. Shockingly managed to suppress the urge to buy half the store.
  • Nummy Italian dinner at Cafe Luciano on Rush Street.
  • Made a return visit to the Hancock Observatory and scoped out the fabulous views of Chicago and the surrounding area.
  • Raced against time to retrieve our baggage from the hotel, get to the El and then get to the airport in time for our flight back home.
  • Whew.
