seen: yuppie ghetto

This photo over at urbancartography.com cracks me up. (The photo shows two signs. On the right: “Freedom Heights. Condos for sale. Apartments for lease.” On the left: “Yuppie Ghetto. Over-Priced Shitoles [sic]. Lofty lofts and condos.”) The photo reminds me of all the development insanity around here. For example:

Driving down Slater’s Lane, which connects Route 1 with the GW Parkway in Alexandria, there are two competing townhouse / condo developments going up. One, Potomac Greens, advertises garage townhomes “from $700,000.” $700K. I’m sure the units themselves are great. But the development is right along a train track. A train track that’s still in use. A train track that doesn’t even have gates that come down when the train’s on its way.
