en route

As I write this, I’m sitting in business class on an Amtrack Metroliner train from D.C. to New York’s Penn Station. My office is sending me to the Flash Forward conference for the week, which should be a nice change of space. Traveling business class is a special thrill, as I get to enjoy the trip with my laptop plugged in, my camera batteries charging and my legs stretched out across the row. If only there was wifi… ;)

I can’t get too used to this, though; I’m booked in coach for the trip back.

Rob’s coming up to New York with me. It worked out to be too expensive to book him on my train, so he’s on the regional Amtrak train, arriving maybe half an hour after I do. We’ll be on the same train on the way back.

In typical "us" fashion, we’ve got this week booked up solid, between my conference seminars, meals with in-town friends and planned touristy jaunts. Should be fun — and not a little tiring. Good thing we’re coming back on Saturday evening, and not late-night Sunday or early-morning Monday, so we’ll have a little time to recuperate.

On a random side note, I’m looking forward to testing out just how comfortable and walking-friendly my new sandals really are. They — and my feet — stood up really well to last night’s marching extravaganza. I usually can’t escape New York without badly blistering my feet the first night; we’ll see how well these shoes do.
