ff05: day two, part two

Flash Forward 2005: New YorkInternet connection has been dicey in the hotel room, so I’m playing catch-up now…

  • Using a PC with a Mac OS X skin, Aral Balkan offered a spirited introduction to object-oriented programming, and offered the quote of the day:
Polymorphism. Whoever came up with that word should be locked up for life.

Balkan had lots of energy, and his explanations were refreshingly easy-to-understand.

  • Inspiring portfolio review from Jakob Trollback, of design studio Trollback + Company. It’s always funny to me when I realize that the same company designed several projects that I’ve admired. Among other things, Trollback worked on the nifty Helvetica-centric AMC rebranding and the cityscape TV schedule tiles on Turner Classic Movies.

  • In her session on color, Veronique Brossier demoed some nifty custom Flash palettes she’d made to pick colors. I was a big fan of the color theory palette for picking/adjusting families of color.

The day’s sessions were followed by the Flash Film Festival — always a great opportunity to check out inspiring work done by others. Winning sites:
