watergate revisited

photo of the watergate complex; source: the washington postIt seems like there’s always more to say about the Watergate scandal. The recent unmasking of “Deep Throat” has offered an opportunity to take another look at the events of 1972-74 with an important part of the puzzle finally in place.

One such revisiting comes in the form of Bob Woodward’s latest book, The Secret Man: The Story of Watergate’s Deep Throat, in which he explains Mark Felt’s role in the Watergate story. Woodward responded to reader questions today in a live discussion at washingtonpost.com. (And on a side note, how weird is it that the audiobook for The Secret Man is the third item listed under “New Releases” in the iTunes Music Store this week, alongside two soundtracks and a new album by Sister Hazel? Such a strange juxtaposition.)

Also, last week, washingtonpost.com also launched a multimedia Watergate background package (which I helped design), which steps through the important story threads and offers links to original Post stories and historical documents. If you’re fuzzy on the details of just what Watergate was, this feature can get you up to speed.
