neighborhood map

Cropped image of a satellite map of southeast D.C.One of my projects for this weekend was adapting for the Web a Washington Post graphic by Nathaniel Vaughn Kelso which shows, lot-by-lot, development plans for the area surrounding the new Washington Nationals baseball stadium. The detailed graphic, informed by the research of Post intranet editor Jacqueline Dupree on her blog “Near Southeast” DC Redevelopment, accompanies a story about how the neighborhood is changing.

On a technical note, the background is a satellite image that was imported into Flash, and all the lot outlines are individual Flash buttons with an onRollOver event attached to them. The descriptions are pulled from an XML file with information keyed to each lot.

And very nicely done, too! :-) Thank you for work hard work on it, I’ve seen good comments about it in many places today.
