jazz journey

Lennie Cuje; photo by Akira HakutaA multimedia project I’ve been working on for the past few months went live this morning. “A Life Lived in 4/4 Time” is a Web documentary about the life of local jazz musician Lennie Cuje by washingtonpost.com videographer Christina Pino-Marina. Cuje grew up in Nazi Germany and attended an elite classical music school. He discovered jazz in an American-run relocation camp after the war, and he moved to Arlington, Va., as a teen. The story recounts his journey and his recent visit back to his homeland. Cuje will be answering questions in a live discussion on the site today at 2 p.m.

I worked on the overall framework of the piece, integrating the video into a Flash interface. I had some great images to work with for this project, including screenshots from Nina’s video and some beautifully warm photos by Akira Hakuta. The video came out great, and I’m really happy with the way the design turned out.
