relocating

Today is Day 1 (of 2) of The Great Move. It’s been a busy busy afternoon/evening, made infinitely easier with Dari and John coming by after work to help us load and unload the moving truck. (I do have to say, moving into a high-rise apartment makes for the easiest. move-in. ever. Back the truck into the loading dock, use dollys to load up the freight elevator you’ve reserved for a block of time, and off you go in just a couple trips. It’s AWESOME.)

My dread about this move subsided immensely once we got the couch out of my old apartment. The couch is somehow this strange psychological sticking point for me, and once it’s taken care of, suddenly the sun comes out and my mood is so much brighter. I went from oh my god i’ve got so much stuff and there’s no way we’re going to move it all to whee! new apartment! new apartment! new apartment!

Since then, I’ve been a-glee with enthusiasm about doing completely banal everyday things in the new place. “I can’t wait to play Skip-Bo. IN THE NEW APARTMENT!” “I can’t wait to make toast. IN THE NEW APARTMENT!” And so on. Let’s hope the enthusiasm holds through tomorrow, when Doug and Annie join us for Day 2.
