wilted dance-off

Happy as I am that John “Peterman Wuz Robbed” O’Hurley won the Dancing with the Stars Dance-Off, the whole thing left me feeling a bit cold. Though his performance was still better than Kelly “Shake and Shimmy” Monaco’s, both performers had lost their edge from lack of practice since the series finale, and neither had gotten back to form. (And the “interlude” performances featuring the show’s professional dancers brought the stars’ lesser skills into even sharper relief.)

Meanwhile, ABC did its darndest to milk this thing for everything it was worth, offering not only the live 90-minute “dance-off” on Tuesday, but a 1 hour repeat broadcast on Thursday followed by a “results show” that consisted of 28 minutes of Regis wannabe Tom Bergeron teasing the audience with the promise of the winner announcement. Sadly, I was watching it live, so rather than fast forward through the prattle, I was forced to sit idly by and periodically shout “Get on with it!” at the television.
