busy weekend
Did a lot this weekend, but, as is usually the case, didn’t accomplish near as much as I’d hoped. I suppose that’s what to-do lists are for — crossing some things off and shifting the others over to the following day.
This weekend, in list form:
Saturday:
- Helped John and Amie move from their Woodley Park apartment to their newly-purchased (and quite nice!) Fairlington condo. It’s amazing how fast things move when you have five people. We unloaded the truck at the new place in about 45 minutes.
- After the moving, the five of us piled into my car to go to lunch, only to hear a worrisome CLICKCLICKCLICK from the ignition instead of the engine starting up. Waited 40 minutes for roadside assistance to come and jump-start my car battery, went on a futile run to the nearby Saturn dealership (the service department had just closed for the weekend), then drove John and Rulie (Amie’s sister) back to Woodley Park to retrieve Rulie’s truck.
- Returned to John and Aimie’s place for a late lunch (they’d ordered in food from Charlie Chiang’s). Was amazed to see that in the time we’d been gone, they’d set up the couches and set the table (complete with table linens) for our meal. Learned that Rulie went to high school in Philadelphia with Bradley Cooper.
- Spent an hour or so at the NTB in Clarendon and got a new battery for the car. (It was probably four years old; its time had come.)
Sunday:
- Re-orienting to the end of daylight savings time. Now two hours’ difference between D.C. and Arizona, instead of three. Starting today, sunset happens a lot earlier, and it’ll be dark when I leave work every day. I like the spring time change so much better.
- Baked blueberry muffins with the last of the blueberries from last week’s housewarming party.
- Outing to Catoctin Mountain Park, where we hiked to Chimney Rock. Pictures to come.
- After sunset, hiked back down the mountain in growing darkness. Downhill hike + “anklebreaking” rocky path + low visibility = bad idea. Thankfully, we made it back to the car without incident.
- Dinner at Mexicali Cantina in Frederick. Yum.
Back home now. Sleepy.
