burrito me

On my third try, I finally got my California Tortilla breakfast burrito this morning.

The owner was behind the register yesterday when I made my lunch order, and I asked him about the restaurant’s breakfast offerings. “It starts tomorrow morning!” he said, handing me a coupon for a free breakfast burrito.

So, much like last week, I started this morning with a singular goal: Breakfast burrito.

And I got it.

As I waited for my order at the counter, another customer asked me which burrito I’d gotten. “The Mexicali,” I told her, adding somewhat ruefully that I’ll probably be trying them all at some point. (I go to CalTor so often for lunch as it is, Quicken keeps asking me if I want to make it a repeat transaction — a sure sign that I go there far too often.)

After all the hype, the burrito turned out to be only “okay.” My Mexicali Burrito included eggs, rice, beans and ranchero sauce. Way too heavy on the ranchero — to the point where, hours later, I’m still kind of tasting it. Otherwise, though, not bad. Not the best I’ve ever had, but serviceable for a morning meal.
