delayed launch
Someone told me today that a site I worked on more than four years ago finally launched recently.
It was a nightmare of a site. The clients hated my initial comps and kept talking about how much they liked a competitor’s site design. I tried another approach for round two, and, again, the clients hated it, still wedded to the other site’s design. When I gave them exactly what they wanted, they realized that copying the other site almost exactly was a bad idea (particularly for their industry).
So I went back to the drawing board for round three, which they also disliked, but not as strongly as the earlier designs. The whole mess culminated in the clients gathered around my computer, dictating the design as I made changes to the comps in Photoshop. It was horrible — “design by committee” at its worst.
Once the design was finally agreed to, it sat for four years, during which time the project was passed on to others for the day when it would finally launch.
