Thanksgiving decorations

I just got back this evening from an extended weekend in South Carolina with my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousin. I had a wonderful time catching up with everyone, and I think Rob has become a new favorite with the family. Highlights:

  • Coming back “home.” We lived in Sumter for a time when I was young, and my mom’s family has been here since the 1970s. Nana and Poppy’s house feels like this safe little oasis in an otherwise chaotic world, where things haven’t changed all that much since I was little and I always feel welcome and at ease.
  • A scrumptious Thanksgiving meal prepared by my Aunt Lulu (with a fried turkey cooked by my Uncle Paul).
  • A running Skip-Bo war in the kitchen. I didn’t win once, but Nana and Rob (my Skip-Bo student!) were evenly matched.
  • Revisiting Sumter’s Swan Lake, which was even prettier than I remembered. Photos to come.
  • A day trip to Charleston with Aunt Lulu and Katie, complete with a nighttime “ghost tour.” Photos to come.
  • Solving the world’s problems with Poppy.

More to come. This little girl needs to go to bed.
