on the teevee

A project I worked on was made fun of on television tonight … and it totally made my week.

Normally, I might take some offense to my work being mocked, but in this case, the television program in question was The Daily Show, Jon Stewart is one of my heroes and, hey … it was funny.

In a segment about the Jack Abramoff scandal, Stewart featured “The Abramoff Galaxy,” a Post graphic from December 29 about the network of influential people and businesses around the lobbyist. I worked on the online version of the graphic, adding some fades and links. Stewart clearly featured the online version, as the print version ran in black and white. His comments:

Abramoff was the nucleus of a complicated network of political ties. Thankfully, the Washington Post provided this handy flowchart. The chart clearly shows some guy named Scanlon peed on Abramoff’s head … which was then shoved into Ralph Reed’s ass … I, um … I … I’m not very good at reading charts.

It was funnier on television. Or maybe I was just giddy from seeing something I worked on featured on one of my favorite TV shows, for better or worse.

The episode re-airs Thursday at 1 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

(Thanks muchly to Doug for giving me a timely heads-up that tonight’s episode was not, in fact, a rerun.)
