judge a book by its cover

Covers is a cool weblog/gallery featuring well-designed covers for current popular books. It’s a nice collection of interesting book covers, and the subtle mouseover effect on the thumbnails is rather nifty. It’s interesting to read the comments — like this one, roundly panning a cover that I actually like. (But then, maybe I like it because of the antropomorphized “cute” factor.)

OH WOW YAY! thank you so much!

I love Chris Ware’s Voltaire cover, and Susan Mitchell’s for Natasha.

I love that Candide cover … but then, I tend to be a big fan of anything Chris Ware does. This one in particular fascinates me, though, because it introduces the notion that something that I’ve normally thought of as being pretty dry and dense might actually be accessible.
