seen: under the bridge

Rob and I drove over to Crystal City this afternoon to meet Shawn and Jason at Stars and Stripes to watch an IU basketball game. Unsure about street parking, we took the first parking space we could, on Crystal Drive. Since the bar was on the opposite side of Route 1, we used the underground tunnel to get across the street. The tunnel smelled pretty strongly of urine, and the dirty insulation on the ceiling was so dark it looked like it had been taken over by mold.

On the way back, Rob noticed that there were urinal cakes under the grates at either end of the tunnel. I’m not sure what’s more gross: the cakes’ very presence and apparent use, or that public urination was enough of a problem in the first place that someone felt it was necessary to install them. Ew.
