people problems

There’s a price to living in a neighborhood that’s “up and coming,” as residents of Clarendon are figuring out. The Washington Post reported yesterday on a task force set up to address neighborhood residents’ complaints about rowdy bar patrons, late-night noise, littering and scarce parking. (“The Price of Success in Clarendon” - 02/09/06)

It could be worse: It could be Adams Morgan. Clarendon residents’ troubles remind me of a story Rob told me about the night he went with a friend to Adams Morgan for a party. They couldn’t find a particular address, so they asked a woman walking by for directions. But she just kept walking, completely ignoring them. A few steps later, she stopped and turned around, saying “Oh! You’re not drunk.” Then she pointed them in the right direction, and everyone went on their way.
