another mac lockout

Cheers: The federal government is close to launching a new, centralized system where people can search and apply for grant money from a variety of federal agencies.

Jeers: Only people visiting the site on a PC using Internet Explorer can use it. (Washington Post: “New Grant System Excludes Mac Users” - 02/13/06)

This comes only months after FEMA caught some flak because its online disaster relief application was built for IE/PC users, blocking out Mac, Firefox and Linux users.

Actually, the Mac-using scientific community has been all over this. This is from an Apple users group that I belong to:

While there is presently not a native Mac solution, the NIH has stated a native Mac version will be available later this year. That is great news.

In the interim, the NIH has made a Citrix server available for Mac users to submit grants. This will give you an almost identical experience to Windows users. Simply direct your P.I.’s and grants administrators to the following 2 websites for full info.
