life imitates art

A new contest announced in this week’s iTunes Music Store “New Music Tuesday” e-mail sounds like a certain Saturday Night Live sketch come to life:

Win A Private Show
by Prince at His Home

Universal/Motown has the ultimate prize for the ultimate Prince fan: A private concert in the comfort of Prince’s own home! Purchase the two-track single of the “Black Sweat / Beautiful, Loved & Blessed” and be automatically entered for a chance to win. Four lucky winners will be chosen.

Check It Out

How very weird would that be? I can’t stop giggling … mainly because I’m mentally “hearing” that text as read by the breathless voice of Maya Rudolph as Beyoncé, complete with vaguely Shatner-esque pauses between phrases.

Speaking of Beyoncé, this week’s “New Music Tuesday” inspires my wrath by introducing a new word — vingle — to push new “video singles” by artists such as Ms. Knowles. It’s supposed to evoke “single,” but to me, the first thing I think of is “jingle,” and it just makes me angry. Apple: “Vingle” is not a real word. Please, please do not try to make it one.

Comments

re Vingle: we are too late. When I see it I think of Kris Kringle. Which, via Ho Ho Ho, brings us back to Beyoncé. (Oh no he didn’t!)
