wandering the stacks

Since I’m in Seattle, there was one place that I absolutely had to go during my visit: Elliott Bay Book Company. Melanie introduced me to it on our last trip to Seattle, and it became an instant favorite. It’s such a wonderful bookstore — lots of books (of course), interesting displays and tons of nooks and crannies to explore. I could probably spend days there.

After the conference wrapped up for the day, Nelson accompanied me on my chosen “mission” to visit the bookshop. The hotel van dropped us off at Pike Place Market, and we walked to Pioneer Square from there. We spent a good hour there, though, if I was alone, I might have just stayed until closing. There’s so much to peruse and absorb. I walked out with a book by Haruki Murakami and a Moleskine journal. (I also agonized over buying a handmade journal, but I finally set it back on the shelf after reminding myself — repeatedly — that I have a bad habit of buying beautiful journals and never using them.)

If time permits, I think I may go back before I leave on Friday. I wish they had a bookstore like that in D.C.

(I’ll be continuing the bookstore tour in May, with a probably lengthy stop at Powell’s when Rob and I visit Portland.)
