how to watch an awards show

It’s all about digital cable.

At the beginning of the program, tune to the right channel and press “pause” on your remote. Step away from the television. Go make a cup of tea, play a computer game, call your mother, whatever. Just stay away from any information sources that might spoil you about the winners.

After 45-60 minutes have passed, go back to the television and hit “play” on your remote. Now you can watch that 3-hours-plus-long awards show with complete power to fast-forward through any lame skits, boring speeches and annoying commercials and rewind for instant replay of any notable gaffes. With any luck, you’ll catch up with “live” television just as the biggest awards of the night are announced.
