hipster tees
My first purchase from Threadless arrived in the mail yesterday.
I heard about the t-shirt company a few months ago via Doug’s blog and had flagged a couple tees to waffle about buying, but I didn’t actually pull the trigger until last week, when the site put all its shirts on sale for $10 each for a 48-hour period.
Threadless had a noticeable presence at SXSW Interactive last month: The site held a contest to pick the design for the conference swag bag, and the company’s co-owners were on a panel to discuss the site’s unique approach to community-building.
(And, in yet another example of how the world is an absurdly tiny place, one of the co-owners actually went to Rob’s high school in Indiana.)
Anyway, I bought three tees:
- “Skunk2” in a “girly tee” size. I like the color and fun, simple design. And it was great for wearing up to the gym last night.
- “As the World Turns” was runner-up in the Threadless SXSW contest, losing out to “Potassium Alkaline,” but I actually liked this design better. The color’s great, and I love the gianormo power button at the center of the world.
- “Summer” has an attractive, low-key design with a clever way of using the shirt color as an integral part of the design … but I have to admit that what sold me on it was the glow-in-the-dark ink they’ve used for the moon and stars. Yes, I’m a dork.
