oh, yum

The swift onset of summer temperatures this past week has brought with it an intense craving for ice cream — a craving I still have yet to indulge. Tonight I finally caved in and walked over to CVS … only to find a store employee reorganizing all the refrigerator cases and no ice cream at all. It must be a sign.

They probably wouldn’t have had the flavor I really wanted. I’ve been seeing these ads recently for a new flavor from Haagen-Dazs: Mayan Chocolate. The latter is, I’m assuming, a variation on what I’ve usually seen described as “Mexican chocolate,” a tasty mixture of chocolate and cinnamon. Oh, yum.

I have a feeling that finding this stuff is going to become a mission for me this weekend. That, and maybe trying to figure out how to make something similar at home.

So I finally found the Haagen-Dazs Mayan Chocolate this weekend at the Shoppers in Seven Corners. It’s good stuff: The chocolate flavor is fairly dense, for lack of a better word, and the cinnamon is a bit more subtle than I was expecting. Overall, perhaps it’s a little too rich. (And that’s saying a lot for a chocoholic like me.) I can only take a few small tastes before I’ve had enough. But then, maybe that’s for the best! Mmmm … moderation.
