photo of the day: barnacles
When we went to Vancouver with Melanie and Steve back in 2004, we drove up the Sea-to-Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler. On that trip, we came across some beautiful British Columbia parks on our way back. Even though we were there for less than half an hour, visiting Porteau Cove Provincial Park was probably my favorite part of the trip.
On our honeymoon, Rob and I made a point of renting a car one day so we could retrace our steps and revisit those parks. Once we got past the ferry terminal north of Vancouver, the view from the road was amazing, the mountains resting atop the waters of Howe Sound and rising high up into the sky.
Our first stop, of course, was Porteau Cove. It had changed quite a bit in two years, with the addition of a large observation bridge with a ferry dock. The midday light was too harsh to take many usable photos, though, so we left after about half an hour to visit a couple other parks.
We returned later in the day when the light was better. The waterline had receded with the tide, exposing a rocky beach, much of the stones covered in small white barnacles or algae (or both). Wincing at the crunching sound of rocks beneath my feet, I walked gingerly to the waterline to explore and take photos.
