weekend in tucson
After some airplane trouble, I finally arrived in Tucson last Friday morning and returned to D.C. on Tuesday night.
These visits are always too short, but I’m happy I came out and was able to spend time with my family, particularly my brother Ryan, who I hadn’t seen since he started chemo in June. I also got to accompany my sister Ashley as she experienced something of a milestone: buying a brand-new car. And my brother Ross gave me the gift of new music, with some interesting recommendations that I’m still poring through. (I was actually a bit surprised — in a good way — by some of the music in his library, which featured a number of bands that I like that I didn’t even realize he knew about. It was a nice bonding moment.) My family even threw me an early birthday dinner, complete with blissfully unhealthy food like homemade chicken fried steak and mini-cheesecakes.
I also got to see some old friends, including a visit with former coworkers at azcentral.com. And on Saturday night, I got together with Danielle and Sarah. Things have changed so much since high school: The three of us are married, Danielle and Sarah both recently bought homes and Sarah is the proud parent of a six-month-old. Yet despite all the changes in our lives, conversation came easily, and we spent the evening chatting about our past and present lives.
