Memorial lights over the Pentagon

Dari called us late this evening to give us a heads-up that they had switched on the Sept. 11 memorial lights over the Pentagon and that we’d probably have a great view of them from our roof. Heeding his suggestion, Rob and I hurried upstairs. Seconds after I shot this photo, the lights were abruptly turned off.

At that point, I remembered receiving an e-mail alert from Arlington County that there was a test of the lights scheduled for tonight. The real memorial begins tomorrow evening with the America Supports You Freedom Walk, which will start on the National Mall and end at the Pentagon.

Updated 9/13, 1:02 a.m. - I went back up to the roof the following night and took more pictures of the Pentagon lights.

Comments

Somehow I didn’t realize there were memorial lights at the Pentagon.

I think it’s a new thing for this year, to commemorate the five-year anniversary.
