life's a beach

A sea gull at Assateague Island National Seashore

Rob, Dari and I took a daytrip out to the Maryland side of Assateague Island National Seashore this past Sunday.

The last time Rob and I went to Assateague (with our friend Shawn), it was rainy and gray, and we’d left so late in the day that by the time we finally arrived, there wasn’t much daylight left to enjoy the mostly-empty beach.

This time, the weather was perfect: sunny, cool, breezy — and just a touch chilly towards the end. We parked ourselves next to the water around one in the afternoon, and I spent the next four hours alternately reading, dipping my feet in the water and napping. It was a wonderful time-out from the craziness of the past few weeks.

It was so relaxing, in fact, that I’ve spent the past couple days wishing I was back on the beach, the sand and surf drowning out any notion of deadlines or drama.

Ah well. At least there are pictures:
