gotta have you
A couple months ago, I downloaded a few music samplers from the iTunes Music Store via a promotion on Facebook. Most of the songs were less than impressive, but one of the bright gems of the bunch was an endearing little folk song called “Gotta Have You” (iTunes) by The Weepies. I liked the song so much, I couldn’t stop playing it.
Last week, knowing I had tons of election prep work ahead of me, I decided to download the band’s whole album, Say I Am You (iTunes). It’s been in heavy rotation ever since, pretty much the only thing I’ve been listening to at work. It’s sweet and so downright likable, and I love Deb Talan’s voice and her harmonies with bandmate Steve Tannen. I highly recommend checking it out.
The first time I listened to the album, I also was sure that, in this, I’d stumbled across some new music that my mom would love. So when I spoke to her this weekend, I mentioned the band’s name and was all prepared to gush about my new discovery … until she said she’d already heard of them, via the NPR Music podcast. NPR’s Weekend Edition had aired an interview with the band back in September, and my mom had liked the music enough to save the interview.

Curses this album! It’s in my head, in my dreams, EVERYWHERE. I completely adore it, but it’s addictive. Be careful. Next think you know you’ll start talking about snake oil and tinfoil… :o)
Well, now I have another couple of CD’s to buy….
I really like visiting web sites like their’s that allow you to hear more than one song.
What other musical wonders do you have hiding in your closet?

I actually had to think about this for a little bit …. Here’s a sampling of bands I’m listening to these days:
I hope you find something you like!
Jem? Are you serious? :o). Must check that out if only for the 80s cartoon reference. I am also a big fan of Ryan Adams, The Decemberists, The Ditty Bops, Postal Service, Stars, and good o’l Sufjan. He’s a doll.
Yes, it’s truly outrageous. Truly truly truly outrageous.
No, different Jem. :) This one’s Welsh and sounds a bit like Dido.
hehehe…love that song. heee.
