poinsett state park
Friday was such a gorgeous day that Rob and I drove out to Poinsett State Park for an afternoon hike, with a stopover at Nana and Poppy’s on the way. My mom, Aunt Lulu and Uncle Paul all had summer jobs at the park when they were younger, which added an interesting “wandering through their old stomping grounds” kind of dimension to the outing.
We took a great little afternoon hike around the park, following the Coquina Trail around Old Levi Mill Lake, with a side-trip down the Hilltop Trail and back (sadly, the latter trail didn’t offer any spectacular hilltop views). We hadn’t have a chance to take any photo “expeditions” this fall, so this was our last best opportunity to photograph some autumn foliage — this time, against the backdrop of a lake and some nifty Spanish moss.
Random trivia: Joel Roberts Poinsett, a prominent South Carolinian for whom the park is named, is also the namesake of the poinsettia plant.

You’ve taken some beautiful pictures of the park! The lilypads with the reflection of the trees is one of my favorites! I also like the ‘shrooms and the old leaf. Did you see the chamilion in the spanish moss?

Thanks! You know, I hadn’t seen the chameleon until you pointed it out. How cool!
Rob posted his Poinsett photos to Flickr the other day.
I agree, these are lovely photos, Aly. Looks like a stunning day to be at the park…
