let's get out of this country

Camera Obscura

Last night, Rob and I went to see Scottish pop band Camera Obscura at the 9:30 Club. I really enjoyed their set, particularly “I Need All the Friends I Can Get,” which came together well with the staccato audience handclaps at the beginning and end. My only complaint is that the mix seemed off at times — the keyboards were turned up to eleven, while the trumpet was barely audible on some key songs. But otherwise, I can’t complain.

I was first turned on to Camera Obscura by their performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic. It’s archived online, and worth a listen — particularly “Let’s Get Out of This Country,” which starts somewhere around the 11 minute mark.

The opening band, Brooklyn-based Essex Green, wasn’t too bad, either, though I confess I was so tired at the time that I found myself nodding off during the downbeat songs. I’ll have to check out their recordings.

But Chevrolet insists “this is oooouuurrr country”.

Wouldn’t it be counterintuitive to leave?
