april fools
It’s always kind of funny to see what various Web sites do to “celebrate” April Fools Day.
Google usually does something kind of funny, but I was actually underwhelmed by the two “new products” I came across: Gmail Paper and Google TiSP.
Rob said he spotted an ad on Facebook earlier today for a funny (fake) promotion. Currently, the site allows users to virtually “poke” their friends — the virtual equivalent of tapping someone on the shoulder and waving but not actually initiating a conversation. The ad for “LivePoke” offered the first 100 users the ability to have someone actually poke one of their friends. I haven’t seen the ad yet myself, but the idea of it makes me laugh. (This blog recaps some of the other things that appeared in the Facebook NewsFeed. I’m bummed I didn’t see any of them.)
I loved what ThinkGeek did, though. The online store “announced” a few new products today, the most devilish of which is an alarm clock that donates money to your most hated cause every time you hit the snooze button. The joke was actually on ThinkGeek, though, for one product: Apparently they’ve gotten so much mail about the admittedly nifty 8-bit tie that they’re actually going to make it.
(ThinkGeek link via the DCWW mailing list.)

Geeks rejoice: That 8-bit tie is now available for sale at Think Geek.
