Let's Go Sailing

I have two new favorite songs of the week, both by the group Let’s Go Sailing and both found via the NPR World Cafe Next podcast.

The first song that grabbed me was the sweet, peppy “Icicles” (iTunes). But after repeated listens, it’s the dreamier “Sideways” (iTunes | MySpace stream) that’s really gotten into my head.

For more Let’s Go Sailing Goodness, there are three other songs available for MP3 download from their Web site. (Of those, my favorite is “Better Off.”) And to cap it all off, the band recently performed on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic and is this week’s download (MP3) on the MBE podcast.

My mini-obsession hasn’t yet reached Weepies proportions, but it’s getting there…

Edited 1:08 a.m. — The AMG review of the album ended with a lovely turn of phrase (emphasis added):

“The Chaos in Order” is a promising debut on the part of [Shana] Levy and her bandmates — a good album for those who’ve grown tired of Belle & Sebastian, as well as anyone who’d like to drift away on a sad little cloud.
