eastern market

Flora

I got a few IMs early yesterday morning with some truly sad news:

Rob: sad about eastern market
Me: what?
Rob: read dcist … or the post
Rob: eastern market was gutted by fire last night

Eastern Market is a historic neighborhood market just east of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Inside the old brick building, vendors sell everything from fish to meats to hearty brunches. More vendors sell produce and flowers outside, and there’s a flea market across the street.

I’m sad to say that I only visited the market once, back in 2003, and I kept meaning to go back. The food is wonderful, and the market has a great community vibe. Here’s to a speedy rebuilding.
