Still catching up on a backlog of photos / blog entries here…
After the “Nancerus” wedding on May 12, Rob and I had two days left to enjoy Chicago.
On Sunday, we met Rob’s parents in Chinatown for a Mother’s Day dim sum outing — this time at a different restaurant than usual. It was a nice meal, and good chance to catch up with Rob’s parents, whom I hadn’t seen since our wedding last year.
Then we switched hotels (to one half the price of the Embassy Suites room we’d shared with Rachel and Steve for the wedding — and with free wifi!), visited Lou Malnati’s (my first time at this Chicago pizza institution) and wandered a bit along the Chicago River at night.
On Monday, we spent a little time in the morning people-watching at Crown Fountain, one of my favorite places in Chicago. It’s so fun to see the kids playing in the water and interacting with the giant faces on the pillars.
We followed that up with a stroll through the lovely Chicago Cultural Center.
Afterward, we met Adrian and Sara for a yummy brunch at Orange. The featured dish of the week, which we all got: pancakes, served in a divided dish, with four different kinds of toppings. It was ridiculously huge, but, oh, was it yummy. Another nice touch: Our glasses of water were served with a slice of cucumber on top, which adds a surprisingly refreshing “cool” taste to it.
After brunch, we took the bus down to the Chicago History Museum, then headed back to our hotel, stopping off along the way to check out the ridiculously monstrous Rock and Roll McDonald’s and its much smaller music memorabilia annex.
