Chins Up, Ladies

On Thursday I went to a reading / booksigning by Laurie Notaro, a humor writer I used to work with at The Arizona Republic. We both left the Republic around the same time in the summer of 2002 — me to head out to DC for grad school and her to enter the wild world of writing books (her first book, The Idiot Girls’ Action Adventure Club, would hit the New York Times bestseller list that summer). Thursday’s event was for her fifth book — and first novel — There’s a (Slight) Chance I May Be Going to Hell. Aside from a brief e-mail exchange a couple years ago, this was the first time I’d talked to her since those days at the paper; it was nice to catch up.
