logorama
Yesterday, while reheating leftovers for lunch, the logo for the Capital Area Food Bank caught my eye. My office is holding a food drive this month, and there are large donation bins on every floor. While I certainly can’t quibble with the organization and its work, its logo befuddles me. At first glance, it’s fine, but a couple of the details are a bit off. Why is the “k” italicized? Why aren’t the “d” and the “b” the same? (The “b” is missing the bottom serif that the “d” has.) I can’t look at it for too long now, or else my befuddlement overpowers the reminder that I need to bring in some canned goods to donate.
The logo for Keepers, a DC-area employment agency, is a bit more egregious. I first noticed this logo when I walked by the company’s Rosslyn office on the way to watch Fourth of July fireworks one year. If you’re advertising jobs (and employees) that are “keepers,” why would you have a logo that, in programming parlance, actually says that they’re NOT “keepers”? (The exclamation mark means “NOT.”) They’re completely undermining their own message.
