photo of the day: ferris wheel

Ferris Wheel

The ferris wheel at Navy Pier, viewed from nearby Olive Park.

I took this photo on Monday, during my whirlwind two-day trip to Chicago for An Event Apart. I’ve still never actually been to Navy Pier. One of these days…

I recently finished reading The Devil in the White City, about the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893 and a serial killer who took advantage of the hubub at the time to do his own “work.” Sprinkled throughout the book were bits of fascinating historical trivia. Among them: The first Ferris wheel debuted at the World’s Fair and was a key attraction of the event.
