a beach outing

[Photo: Mini Barn Owl at the beach]

For the past month or so, Rob and I had been tossing around the idea of going out to Cape Henlopen this weekend. When the appointed day (yesterday) came, though, we overslept. But we’d resolved to go to the beach — indeed, had been using it as a kind of a lifeline to get through the week — and to the beach we would go, despite the late hour. After a long drive (and a ridiculous hold-up at the Bay Bridge toll plaza), we finally arrived at 5 p.m., determined to make the most of the two hours we had until sunset. Encroaching chills aside, it was a relaxing time: I settled into a new book, and Rob got a little exploring in. We followed it up with dinner at a Rehoboth Beach seafood restaurant, then headed back home. It was a lot of driving for comparatively little actual beach time, but it was nice to get out of town for even a short bit of time.

Back in the day, when we wanted a beach trip and didn’t plan so well, or didn’t feel like the long drive, we’d just go to Sandy Point: http://www.stateparks.com/sandy_point.html

You know, when we hit traffic at the Bay Bridge toll plaza, we very nearly bailed on our beach plans in favor of checking out Sandy Point instead. (The exit to Sandy Point is literally right before the toll plaza.) Thanks for the recommendation — we’ll check it out sometime!
